I have never stood up during a standup

agile bullshit religious wars safe scrum

Nobody

We do scaled agile framework at work, so we have daily stand ups, but we never stand during them.

Is this common or do we just suck at this particular development religion?

same, let me know if you figure this out

Muy Mas Mucho

I take that back. We did stand for a standup once when the agile coach for the department was observing standups for each of the scrums.

We also do the “this is the standup but it’s really a status meeting” anti-pattern.

the point of the standup is that its supposed to be annoying to do for longer than 15 minutes, which is why we regularly stood up during standups at most of my jobs. that way the bosses cant dominate your time with meetings

Sexy dragon nerd boy

Really says a lot about software developers if they find standing more than fifteen continuous minutes to be uncomfortable or a burden.

a long time ago in my old company we actually stood up for a while
then we grew too much and it turned into a lame status meeting

The “this is just a status meeting” anti-pattern seems to be common.

yeah it was a huge waste of time tbh
i dont really buy ‘agile’ (seems like nobody does it right)

The product owner of our team used to be an agile coach, and he talks about ‘capital A agile’ and ‘just agile’, and it hurts every time.

Took down a few deltas and sent out the action items.

yesterday after standup my boss started asking me about my hobbies and whether i was still making time for myself to do things other than work and what i did in my free time and family life so i disconnected my router and pretended that i lost internet so i could avoid the conversation

same i just make shit up most days tbh

same…

I can tell how little work someone gets done on my team by how long their update at the standup takes. Short and sweet? Busy and did a lot of things. Long winded? Someone’s bullshitting.

It’s about 85% predictive for my team - if someone consistently takes long to describe their work yesterday and work today then they will miss their deliverables.

i’m on call and it makes me wanna die how do i get a job where i don’t have to get paged at midnight

damn that sucks
not getting paged is my main motivation to make things stable
i think i’ve been lucky so far

unsurprisingly our devs don’t give a shit about that since htey don’t have to get woken up at 3 am when their shit breaks

i applied for a job thursday with a 1 week on call rotation where you’re only actually on the pager for 12 hours bc half of the workforce is in europe and can take the rest of the 24 hour period and i saw that a tech manager from there peeped my linkedin yesterday and i’m literally begging them to call me bc i’m burning out rapidly
